To the Honorable Board:

I have been a resident of Somerville since 1979 and have seen many, many positive changes in this vibrant city I’m proud to call home.

However, I, like so many others, am appalled that Somerville is becoming unaffordable for most people. Indeed, my own children will not be able to afford to buy the house they grew up in!

Recently I had a fascinating conversation with a Somerville resident and small business owner who’d grown up in Newton and attended that community’s excellent public schools. Her son will be entering Somerville High School next Fall. A huge reason why he’ll be going there is because of SHS’s diversity! Let’s keep it that way.

So I am writing in support of both a higher inclusionary zone’s of 20% and the Real Estate Transfer Fee. Both will ameliorate a tragic situation.

Thank you.
