Official Text

To the Honorable Board:

Per the Community Preservation Committee’s (CPC) recommendation, I respectfully request that your Honorable Board appropriate $24,970 in Community Preservation Act (CPA) funds for the Somerville Museum to use for the design, purchase, and installation of an elevator in the historic building.

The CPC recommended, and your Board approved, appropriating $168,191 in CPA funds on March 26, 2015 (Board Order 198620). Of this original appropriation, $24,970 was to be used to purchase a wheelchair lift, which would have made the first floor of the Museum ADA accessible. However, the Architectural Access Board has recently determined that all floors of the Museum must be accessible, which requires the design, purchase, and installation of an elevator in the building.

Upon the recommendation of the CPC, I request that your Board rescind the original appropriation of $24,970 for the purchase of a wheelchair lift (submitted separately) and approve an appropriation of $24,970 for the design, purchase, and installation of an elevator.

Respectfully,

Joseph A. Curtatone, Mayor
