Official Text

To the Honorable City Council:

The Mayor respectfully requests that this Council accept and approve expending a grant of $10,000 from the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) to Department of Public Works (DPW) and Department of Infrastructure and Asset Management (IAM) Engineering, under the provisions of MGL Chapter 44, Section 53A. This grant does not require the commitment of new matching funds.

The purpose of this grant is to pay for the reconstruction of a sidewalk and landscape area on Grand Union Blvd near Foley St. to facilitate the relocation of an MBTA bus stop. The existing MBTA bus stop does not meet current MBTA/Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards for an accessible bus stop. These funds will allow DPW and IAM/Engineering to collaboratively reconstruct the sidewalk at this location to provide a more ADA compliant bus stop for our constituent transit riders.

Appropriate staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your consideration of this item.

Respectfully submitted,

Katjana Ballantyne, Mayor
