Official Text

To the Honorable Board:

In February of 2011 a contract with Crosby, Schlessinger & Smallridge, LLC for phase one of a three phase design contract was initiated. Further review of phase one determined that a more comprehensive analysis of the square than that sought in the original contract was needed. The scope of the contract will have a multimodal focus including pedestrian, bicycle, vehicular, and public transit and the existing and future conditions of the Davis Square roadway network, including intersections, traffic volumes, trip origins and destinations, truck traffic, traffic operations, parking, pedestrian and bicycle conditions, and public transit.

Once the analysis is completed, the Consultant will provide recommendations and design alternatives related to roadway design, pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, traffic control, potential bus operation upgrades, utility work, construction phasing, and traffic volumes as well as streetscape and aesthetic upgrades.

The appropriation request before you is for an additional $55,580 from the Capital Stabilization Fund (for a total of 120,580.00) to fund phase one of the Davis Square Streetscape and Transportation Design contract.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone

Mayor
