To the Honorable Board:

I respectfully request your acceptance of a Grant from the CHNA17 in the amount of $10,000. These funds will be used to build upon our previous youth led CHNA Youth Focus Project initiatives that utilized social norms marketing prevention strategies.  These strategies worked to promote positive youth behaviors among youth to address priority health issues (substance abuse, bullying, and youth access to services) while utilizing social media networks (Facebook and Twitter).

This expansion project will allow SCAP to hire 6-10 Somerville Positive Youth Leaders to form a Social Marketing Committee (SMC).  In addition SCAP will expand programming over the summer by hiring a facilitator to run a Social Marketing Club which will train and engage 10-20 youth leaders in implementing social media platforms to address the above issues.  This youth development program will support SMC youth.

In accordance with M.G.L., Chapter 44, Section 53A, which requires a vote of the Board of Alderman for the expenditure of grants, or gifts from the federal government and from charitable foundation, private corporation, or an individual, or from the Commonwealth, a County or Municipality or agency thereof, I request that you accept this grant for final approval.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Respectfully Submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone

Mayor
