CITATION

Be it hereby known to all that the

Somerville City Council

offers its sincerest commendations to

John J. Long

Who is retiring after more than three decades of dedicated service to the City of Somerville.  During his tenure, John served as Clerk of Committees for 7 years, Assistant Clerk of Committees for 3 years and as City Clerk for more than 20 years, serving under 5 Mayors and working with a total of 37 Aldermen/City Councilors.  Among his many accomplishments and advancements in the best interest of the City, John was instrumental in configuring the legislative tracking system currently used by the City, and in making archived documents digitally available to the public.  He has carried out each of his duties with unparalleled assistance in a professional manner, freely sharing his wealth of historical knowledge and always doing so with a kind word and a smile.  The City of Somerville is losing an extraordinary employee, and we thank him for his decades of exceptional service.

The entire Membership extends its sincerest Best Wishes to our friend, John Long, on his retirement.

Offered this 8th day of July 2021.
