Official Text

Dear Honorable Board Members:

The Health & Human Services Department of the City of Somerville has been awarded a Project Bread Grant in the amount of $5,000.00.

These funds will provide the “seed money” for our new Mobile Market model. Customers using the EBT match program will still pay half-price, and those not using the program will pay a modest 30% mark-up from the wholesale price (closer to retail prices at stores such as Market Basket) to help subsidize the EBT match program. These funds will help the market become more sustainable and self-sufficient.

In accordance with M.G.L. Chapter 44, section 53A which requires a vote of the Board of Alderman for the expenditure of grants or gifts from the federal government and from a charitable foundation, private corporation, or an individual, or from the Commonwealth, a County or Municipality or agency thereof, I request approval to accept the initial payment of this grant which totals $5,000.00.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone

Mayor
