To the Honorable Board:

In response to Agenda Items submitted May 11, 2017:

Agenda Item 203396

That the Director of Traffic and Parking determine whether fire trucks and ambulances can safely access Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island Avenues from Pennsylvania Avenue, and make appropriate recommendations to this Board.

Traffic and Parking will coordinate with the Somerville Fire Department to determine if fire trucks and ambulances can safely access the above listed streets and then report to the Board the results.

Agenda Item 203397

The Traffic Commission consider making Mt. Vernon Street an ABUTTERS ONLY roadway, from Pearl Street to Broadway, during peak travelling hours.

The request will be made to the Traffic Commission on the June 15th meeting

Agenda Item 203446

That the Director of Traffic and Parking install additional pedestrian safety measures at the intersection of Holland Street and Cameron Avenue.

Traffic and Parking has reviewed the intersection of Holland Street and Cameron Ave. Traffic and Parking has previously this year installed two Pedestrian Impact Recovery Systems. The crosswalks were “repainted” last year and the Stop sign on Cameron Ave is in good conditions. Bicycle Sharrows on both Cameron Ave and Holland Street are repainted twice a year. These Bicycle Sharrows on both streets were repainted earlier this month. Traffic signals must meet the criteria of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). This intersection does not meet the criteria for the installation of a traffic signal per the MUTCD,. The installation of a so called on demand flashing light is under the jurisdiction of SPCD, Traffic and Infrastructure.

Please contact me if I can be of further assistance.
