To the Honorable City Council:

I respectfully request that your Honorable City Council accept a grant of $13,305 from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to the Somerville Public Library, under the provisions of MGL Chapter 44, Section 53A. This grant does not require the commitment of new matching funds. The purpose of this grant is to pay for Pathways to Citizenship, a two-year program which will train immigrants via an ESOL/civics awareness class, provide USCIS citizenship workshops to library patrons, create a Citizenship Corner at each library, provide library staff training, and create and test a train-the-trainers program to keep the project going past the 2-year award.

My staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. Thank your for your consideration of this item.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone, Mayor
