Requesting approval of an annual Vacant Property Registration Fee of $500.

To the Honorable City Council:
I respectfully request that your Honorable City Council consider and approve the Vacant Property Registration Fee.
Section 11-111, as amended by Ordinance 2019-13, requires the registration of vacant properties in the City. According to Section 11-111, the fee shall be set by the City Council pursuant to G.L. c. 50 §22F. This fee covers the administrative cost of monitoring and ensuring the security and proper maintenance of the vacant building.
Based on analysis of administrative costs related to monitoring and securing such vacant properties, I propose, subject to Council approval, an annual registration fee of $500.
