Requesting an appropriation and authorization to borrow $2,200,000 in a bond for the Union Square Streetscape and Utility Early Action Project.

To the Honorable Board:

I hereby request, subject to the approval of your Honorable Board, an appropriation in the amount of $2,200,000.00 for Union Square Streetscape and Utility Early Action Project. Project will improve traffic safety and operations at three key Union Square intersections: Prospect & Somerville, Webster & Somerville, and Webster & Prospect. I also request authorization for the City Treasurer, with the approval of the Mayor to borrow $2,200,000.00 to meet said appropriation.

To meet said appropriation, the Treasurer will be authorized to borrow $2,200,000.00 as provided by M.G.L. Chapter 44.

The Project includes procurement of new signal equipment, updated lane markings, removal of two small traffic islands, minor subsurface utility work,  and installation of a mid-block pedestrian crosswalk.
