REPORT OF THE COMMITTEEON INFORMATION TECHNOLOGYThe Committee on Information Technology held a meeting on April 27, 2010, with Chairman Bruce Desmond presiding and Committee Members Aldermen William Roche and Robert Trane also present and voting. Also present were Alderman Walter Pero, Administrative Assistant Matt Dias and CIO Karthik Viswanathan.Mr. Viswanathan informed the members that implementation of the initial phase of the web based Munis system is complete and the project is on track for Phase I. Training will begin during the first week of May. It is expected that the system will be up and running by July 1st and functioning throughout the city by December of this year. The system is installed on the city?s server and has 250 user accounts set up throughout the city. Network configurations will be set up on both the city side and school side and the city?s IT Department will be responsible for security. The Inspectional Services, Assessing and Fire Departments will have hand held devices by July 1st as it relates to revenues. The committee discussed the possibility of Somerville participating in the Google Fiber for Communities program, noting the city?s population and proximity to colleges. Mr. Viswanathan also discussed I Phone applications. Aldermen Trane and Roche requested that the committee be provided with more detailed summaries of the 311 calls received and the actions taken.No Papers were acted on.
