Official Text

To the Honorable Board:

B.O.A. Order #193569…That the Director of Traffic and Parking study truck traffic into Davis Square and devise a plan to limit delivery times that impact the surrounding neighborhoods.

Traffic and Parking has observed truck traffic in and around Davis Square and it does not appear excessive in light of the central business district designation and level of economic activity.  There are currently approved truck restrictions on Day St, Dover St and Cameron Ave.  These truck restrictions are for 24 hours/7 days per week but do not pertain to trucks making deliveries on these streets.

Traffic and Parking does, however, support limiting truck deliveries to specific morning hours.  Truck restrictions are under the purview of the Traffic Commission, and this item has been referred to them for consideration.

B.O.A. Order  #193573…That the Director of Traffic and Parking repaint the crosswalk at Winslow and Grove Streets.

The crosswalk at Winslow and Grove St was repainted on 8/16/12.

B.O.A. Order #193575…That the Director of Traffic and parking repaint the traffic lanes at Cutter and Summer Streets.

The traffic lane and crosswalk at Cutter Ave and Summer St is in fair condition.  The “repainting” of the  traffic lanes and crosswalks at the intersection of Cutter Ave and Summer St are a Zoning Board condition for the development of 377 Summer St. after the development is complete and must be installed before a Certificate of Occupancy is issued.  This development is near completion.  Due to the limited pavement marking budget, Traffic and Parking would prefer the “repainting’ of the traffic lanes and crosswalks to be completed by the developer as specified in the aforementioned conditions.

B.O.A. Order #193577…That the Director of Traffic and Parking install a 3-way Stop sign on Stone Ave, approaching Warren Ave.

Stone Ave intersects with Columbus Ave.  A tab for one of the Stop signs at the intersection of Stone Ave at Columbus Ave is missing.  This tab will be reinstalled immediately.

B.O.A. Order #193578…That the Director of Traffic and Parking install a pedestrian crossing signal at the intersection of Bow St and Warren Ave.

A pedestrian impact recovery system will be installed at this location as requested.

Board Order #193630…That the Director of Traffic and Parking mark the Park and College Ave intersection to prevent it from being blocked by backed-up traffic, especially during rush hours.

Traffic and Parking does not install pavement markings to prevent vehicles from blocking an intersection.  There is a sign at this intersection stated “Do Not Block Intersection”.  If vehicles do not comply with this sign then it is an enforcement issue.  Traffic and Parking has notified the Somerville Police Department regarding enforcement at this location to prevent blocking of the intersection as requested.
