Official Text

To the Honorable City Council:

I hereby request, subject to the approval of your Honorable City Council, an appropriation in the amount of $3,380.000 in order to fund the cost of rehabilitating and replacing the sanitary, drain, and combined sewer systems in East Somerville to address system deficiencies including the collapsing cross-country pipe north and south of Flint Street. To meet said appropriation, the Treasurer will be authorized to borrow $3,380,000 as provided by MGL Chapter 44.

This capital improvement will fund the construction and related professional services required to rehabilitate and replace the City’s sanitary, drain and combined sewer system in East Somerville to address system deficiencies including the collapsing cross-country pipe north and south of Flint Street. Asset improvements in these efforts include:  replacement and/or in-place rehabilitation of sewer and drain pipes, manholes, and appurtenances; replacement of water system assets required to complete the sewer work, and restoration of pavement, sidewalks and other landscaping required to complete the sewer work.

This project is part of the FY2020 Capital Investment Plan-Water and Sewer Improvements. Debt Service will be paid from the Sewer Enterprise Fund.

My staff will be available to answer any questions you may have. Thank you for your consideration of this matter.

Respectfully,

Joseph A. Curtatone, Mayor
