Official Text

To the Honorable Board:

I respectfully request to declare 180 Parking Meter Housings and 170 Parking Meter Mechanisms as surplus equipment.

The meter Housings (MKH 4000s) and Mechanisms (Guardian X Series) are manufactured by J.J. MacKay Canada Limited (MacKay Meters).  The meters are five (5) years or older and in serviceable condition.  They are no longer needed due to greater utilization of parking meters that accept multiple forms of payment; most notably, the ability to accept credit card payments.

Recent examples include the new multi-space parking kiosks found in many off-street parking lots and single-space meters located in several business districts.  Over time, and in order to meet demand, we hope to increase our utilization of parking meters that allow for multiple forms of payment.

The estimated fair market value of this equipment used is approximately $50-$60 per meter mechanism and $75-$100 per meter housing.

Respectfully submitted,

Joseph A. Curtatone

Mayor
